It seems like Pokemon Go has just made history in the gaming industry.
Different from its other competitors, Pokemon Go has reached out to many people in a wide range of age groups starting from young children to adults in their mid-30s to 40s. They have swept the entire nation with this compelling game and it seems like the idea of the game attracts more users each day.
Recently, on my latest blog post, I have talked about augmented reality and how it can make a huge impact on companies across the globe. No doubt, within a short amount of time this idea has been used in a game which has lead to Pokemon Go’s immense popularity. Pokemon Go which is basically revolved around the idea of augmented reality has users trying to capture creatures by physically searching and exploring places around them. Whether being a nearby park or traveling overseas, this game does a great job at encouraging gamers to step out of their boundaries.
“Pokémon Go represents one of those moments when a new technology — in this case, augmented reality or A.R., which fuses digital technology with the physical world — breaks through from a niche toy for early adopters to something much bigger”, this is exactly how I see the game as well.
By introducing the idea of augmented reality through their game, they really made a huge step forward in the development of technology.
Something that I find ironic about this game is that it tries to prohibit players from being cooped in their houses all day, by instead encouraging them to move around and actually being one with the characters. I can’t agree more that this is a very unique game and I think many other gaming cooperations will be influenced by the use of augmented reality. Honestly, I think that augmented reality technology has big potential especially for the aspect of mass appeal, as we can see here.
Unlike most people, I have not participated in Pokemon Go yet, fearing that it might just be another black hole for me in my early teenage life. I’m already sucked up into KPOP so I don’t want to be completely out of my mind anymore…:) But at least once at some point, I will try the game just to experience the hype of augmented reality without forcing myself to wear the bulky headsets.
